Ethel Gloves knows the way to my heart. They've designed a chic functional black glove that even I will wear. Unless I'm picking up garbage in the LA River I don't wear gardening gloves. Most gloves resemble mittens; bulky, uncomfortable and fug.
Ethel Gloves are the stark opposite. Made of two-way stretch fabric the fit reminds me of my favorite Kiss t-shirt but for my hands. For added protection Ethel Gloves features an extended cuff. Perfect for tattoo coverage.
Although not advertised, Ethel Gloves are vegan. They're made of durable synthetic materials with a rubberized grip and reinforced fingertips. I'm constantly blocking and rolling. Hands deep in sopping soil, it takes a while before my hands actually feel wet. Awesome! I like to keep it cute. These black `Gala' gloves make me want to simultaneously pogo and kick powdery mildew's ass.
I don't review products often but when I do I put them through the rigmarole. From guerrilla gardening to transplanting these gloves get the job done.

Unlike the other reviewer on here, I actually LOVE the fit of these gloves. Whereas most gardening gloves tend to have a lot of play room in the fingers and are kind of baggy, these fit very snugly - almost like Isotoners. If you're concerned about the fit but still want to order from Amazon, you might be able to find them at your local garden center or Lowe's and try them before buying. I'd say my mom and I both have average sized hands (her fingers a bit bigger than mine) and we both have nails - the M fits us both well. The material is thin enough that you can still fell what you're doing and don't feel the need to rip them off to do things, but is still think enough to keep what you don't want on your hands off.
My fave thing about these? Dirt doesn't come in at the wrist! That was always my biggest annoyance with other gloves. Even ones that kept your fingers in good shape would let dirt in at the wrist if you weren't careful, and once it gets lodged in the fingertips it's impossible to get out. And until they get a hole in them (I don't recommend using them for mulching, that will wear them out faster), you WILL NOT get dirt in these gloves like you would with most other fabric etc ones.
I've machine washed mine a couple times and they've come out fine. Again, after using them for mulching the fancy grippy stuff has come off the finger tips a little (no big deal) and after a summer of intense use I did get a small hole in one finger (that I can and will easily sew up).
These are a bit more expensive, but they lasted me a whole summer, and I know that even buying the $10 or $15 ones I found at Lowe's etc, I'd still go through at least 2 pairs a summer and end up with dirt down the wrist of them (which then gets jammed in the fingertips and goes up my nails - ugh!). These Ethels have lasted a whole summer and will start me out next year too, so a worthy investment. And when using them just for dirt (no mulch or heavy duty work), they should last longer.
Note - they also come packaged very nicely and would be a great gift for a gardener!

I was so excited when I saw these gloves mentioned in a gardening magazine so I went straight to Amazon to order them in a large size without first checking my local garden center. I am a 'true' large...a Women's 8 or 8.5. Men's gloves are too big for me. These gloves are sooooo small even in a large they do not fit my average length fingers and the elastic on the wrist is so tight it restricts my movement. I am not a big or overweight person so there really is no reason these gloves fit so tight except that they were improperly sized. How very disappointing because I was so enthused to use them that I tore the packaging card so I cannot return then. I would suggest that the adage 'let the buyer beware' is still THE BEST ADVICE!
